Meena Srinivasan is an Indian-American international educator and thought leader in the field of mindfulness in education. She was one of the youngest educators to be awarded the prestigious National Board Certification. In addition to her California Teaching Credential in the Social Sciences she holds an Administrative Services Credential with the State of California (Tier 1) and is in the process of clearing her credential through UC Berkeley’s equity focused, professional clear credential program. A contributor to a United Nations publication on inclusive education, Srinivasan earned a Masters degree in Education from UC Berkeley and a Bachelor’s degree in History and Political Science from Amherst College. Her international outlook on education was enhanced by spending her junior year studying abroad at the London School of Economics. She has taught middle and high school students in Brazil, India and California and currently works as a Program Manager for the Oakland Unified School District’s Office of Social and Emotional Learning.

Meena is a student of the late Professor Ramchandra Gandhi (Mahatma Gandhi’s grandson) and Nobel Peace Prize Nominee, Thich Nhat Hanh, and was involved in the creation of his bestselling book Planting Seeds: Practicing Mindfulness with Children. She’s a Registered Yoga Teacher, served on the Board of Directors of the Mindfulness in Education Network, was Core Faculty of the Mindful Education Institute, and served on the Advisory Board of the San Francisco Asian Art Museum’s exhibit, Yoga: The Art of Transformation. Meena’s also a recipient of the 2014 Hemera Foundation Contemplative Education Fellowship. Her first book, Teach, Breathe, Learn: Mindfulness in and out of the Classroom (Parallax Press, 2014) was featured on Edutopia.

Meena lives in the San Francisco Bay Area with her husband, Eurasian-American Filmmaker, Chihiro Wimbush. Bringing together their passion for education, media, mindfulness and social justice, Meena and Chihiro started A Lens Inside, a nonprofit corporation that develops mindful media and curriculum to promote mindful education through the exploration of social issues.
