Social Emotional Learning in Secondary

What does Social Emotional Learning (SEL) look like across K-12? How is SEL different in high school when compared to elementary school? These are questions I’ve been pondering for the past 9 months.  Recently case studies on five secondary schools in urban areas found 6 common elements of SEL:

1. Web of structural supports

2. Intentional community

3. Culture of respect, participation, and reflection.

4. A commitment to restorative practices

5. Curriculum of Connection & Engagement

6. Focus on Developing Student Agency
